The Menace of Suburbia

This is the biggest suburban menace there is...............

“Cyclists ride on pavements, footpaths and pedestrian zones without regard for pedestrians, inconveniencing and endangering them.
It is illegal in the United Kingdom.”

The maximum court fine is £500 or the police can issue a £50 fixed penalty notice . In short, it is illegal to cycle on a pavement alongside a road, unless it has been marked as a cycle track. However, children under the age of 10 are below the age of criminal responsibility

Once again this morning as I was walking, legally along the pavement, a cyclist came belting towards me, fully expecting me to obligingly move out of the way.

I never, ever move out of the way for cyclists on pavements.

This cyclist was one of the most laughable kind...all togged up with cycle helmet, high viz jacket and gloves, even the cycle clips were high viz, all kitted out in the required safety gear for riding on the road!

This is another one of them. Our police are not in the least bit bothered about this dangerous habit despite the signs saying that it is illegal

Safety gear is an optional extra as you don't need them if you are riding on the pavements

Sooner or later one of them is going to do me a damage and I will be chastised for not moving out of the way...well, tough, am not planning to move out of their way any time soon despite all the abuse and foul language it usually results in.

We do have some footpaths that have cycle path adjacent to the pedestrian walkway, those I observe.
Before moving into town I was a cyclist myself as the easiest way to get from A to B...never felt the need to ride on the pavements. It doesn't hurt to walk and push your bike for the short time you need to be on the pavement.

OK...rant over, will go and make the tea!
